With the emergence and rapidly developing technology there are various skin care treatments to suit different skin in a bottle. Throughout the past there have been several trends for skin care treatment and the list just keeps on going. All the same, the aim is to achieve flawless, smooth, and youthful skin.

In a nutshell, skin is the largest organ covering our inner parts that are flexible to stretch. There are two main layers that consist of our skin; the thin epidermis (the skin that we can touch) and the inner thicker layer of dermis. The skin cells divide and multiply, pushing new cells upwards and the dead, older skin is shed of, usually as what we see as calluses and flakes. Because of our difference in genetic make up and age, our skin reacts accordingly and the effects are shown on our skin, particularly on the epidermis. Hence there are different skin types such normal skin, dry skin, oily skin, and wrinkles.

Different skin care treatment is required to treat different skin types in achieving a smooth, flawless skin. The difference of our skin is dependent on three main factors:

  • Water content (for our skin’s suppleness, the ability to maintain it is reduce as we age)

  • Lipid content (determine the softness of our skin)

  • Sensitivity and resistance level (determine the tolerance to external factors such as pollution, UV rays, heat, and etc)

Normal skin is characterized by radiant complexion with very minor (or none) imperfections with optimum exchange of oil production and water content. There is no need to have specialized treatment for this type of skin except with the basic skin care routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing with protective sunscreens.

Dry skin has rough patches, flakiness and redness on their skin with the degree of dryness is aggravated by harsh weather and pollutions if not treated correctly. The texture lacks softness and sometimes the surface can peel easily. This type of skin tend to age quickly with wrinkles can appear to people as young as in their 20s. People with dry skin should avoid sun exposure, cold weather, chlorines in pool, and being dehydrated. To treat this skin condition, cleansers for dry skin, a rich, nourishing moisturizing creams and non – alcohol toners are used on the face while creamy moisturizing for other parts of body to restore moisture on the skin.

Oily skin is caused by the sebaceous glands produce excessive oil, making the skin look shiny. The rate of oil production is caused by genetic and/or hormonal changes and it’s prone to bacterial infections, causing blackheads and acne. For this type of skin care treatment, a cleanser, and toner (non – alcohol, as it can dries out too much) that contain salicylic acid or witch hazel can be used. A moisturizer (preferably gel, water based) that works to reduce the excess oil also is suitable.

Certain skin conditions require different skin care treatment and it’s important to treat accordingly. By doing it on regular basis the smooth, flawless, and youthful look can be achieve in no time.
